In Seattle, we are lucky enough to have over 100 wineries, wine bars and tasting rooms – all within the city limits. This of course does not take into account the hundreds of Washington wineries all over the state, from Woodinville to Walla Walla and beyond. That fact alone is enough to celebrate; however, we’re giving you one more reason. March is Washington Wine Month! And, it culminates in the largest single-region wine and food event in the US, Taste Washington.
At Taste Washington you’ll be able to sample wines from over 200 Washington wineries as well as food from 60 fantastic local Seattle restaurants. It’s basically a food and wine lover’s ultimate paradise and lasts for a full weekend, March 23 and 24. If you’re looking to learn more about wine, Taste also holds seminars in the morning- a great way to prepare for a day of tasting. This event is definitely worth making a trip for.
Too excited to wait for March? Do your WA wine homework now and stop by any one of Seattle’s amazing wine bars. A favorite of mine is The Tasting Room Seattle, a great little shop in Pike Place Market that exclusively serves Washington wine. They work with smaller wineries from all over the state, giving you a chance to taste a Treveri Cellars Brut Chardonnay without the trip to Yakima, or Camaraderie Cellars Cabernet Franc without traveling to Port Angeles.
Another favorite is Bottlehouse in Madrona. Bottlehouse is unique in that it is, in fact, a house. A house filled with delicious wines from the Pacific NW and the world, revolving microbrews and cheese plates. This is not only adorable – they really know their stuff. And, since they don’t exclusively serve Washington wines, you can get an idea of how WA grapes measure up with the rest of the wine growing regions of the world.
