Thanksgiving. To cook or not to cook.

For the first year ever we are taking Thanksgiving off.  We’re leaving the cooking, and most importantly, the clean up to the professional chefs of Seattle.

When I finally talked myself (and my family) into the fact that it’s okay to dine at a food establishment over the holidays, my eyes were opened to a whole new world.  People DO eat out on holidays – and not just Ralphie’s family after dogs destroyed the Christmas bird.

Nearly 30 restaurants in Seattle serve a Thanksgiving-esque meal. Thanks to OpenTable.com and a few clicks of the mouse my party of eight is all set to dine on a lovely ‘farm house’ feast at Local 360 in Belltown.

So, this year instead of trying to create the perfect meal to satisfy all the traditions and particular tastes of our guests, I shall sip champagne, nibble PB&J bon bons and enjoy the company of my entertaining family.

And with that, I grant you permission.  It’s not too late for you to re-think your Thanksgiving plans. Put down the potato peeler and the canned cranberries and start a new holiday tradition.  Use this as an excuse to try a fun new spot or relax in the comforts of one of your favorites.  Seattle’s wide array of offerings has a little bit of something for everyone.

Is it truly Thanksgiving if you don’t have leftovers to show for it?  I’ll keep you posted, but I’m hopeful.

Happy Thanksgiving!
