Snow-tertainment: Suncadia Style

SuncadiaA long winter weekend getaway with my husband and our friends, the Snyder’s, was in order. The perfect destination for snowy adventure? Suncadia Resort. Just 80 miles east of Seattle in the Cascade Mountains, lies 6,400 acres of pure outdoor adventure bliss.

Upon arrival at Suncadia, I was incredibly excited about the accommodations. The Resort has multiple options from The Lodge at Suncadia, The Inn at Suncadia to multi-bedroom luxury vacation homes. (can you say, “mansions!”) Depending on your length of stay, you’ll find the perfect arrangement.  We chose to stay in the Lodge, where each room is equipped with a spacious kitchen.

Along with phenomenal meals at the resort restaurants Portals and Fifty 6°, an afternoon at the spa , and lots of laughs with the friends who joined us on the getaway, we spent the majority of our time exploring the great outdoors. And the following, my friends, it what makes Suncadia an ideal adventure destination for winter recreation.

Suncadia Ice SkatingIce Skating

Suncadia is home to its own miniature outdoor ice skating rink. Grab your spouse (or family) and make sure you take a few spins on the ice. Standing in the middle of the rink, clad tightly in a scarf and hat, I looked up to the falling snow, the twinkling lights hanging overhead, and felt pure happiness.

Suncadia Cider

Come to think of it, that may not have been from the ice skating, but more for the fact that I’d get to enjoy some Blue Mountain Cider Company hard cider by the outdoor fireplace, following our session.

During the winter months, Suncadia’s two golf-courses, and miles and miles of trekking trails, turn into the trails-of-choice for snowshoe aficionados. But have no fear, this was my very first time with the monster shoes strapped to my feet and I handled the (sometimes) 3-feet of powdery snow like a champ. After a three-hour trudge, I’d found a new passion in the showshoeing voyage! Don’t feel the need to purchase a pair before you arrive. Suncadia rents showshoes from their Swim & Fitness Center at a reasonable rate ($12 for 2-hours or $20 per day).

Suncadia6Inner Tubing Hill

Never have I had so much fun in my life than the hours I spent on the inner tubing hill! For $35, each person can take 20-runs down the hill and be towed back up via rope tow in total relaxation glory. (I’m pretty sure the rope tow system was the best part of the entire weekend!)

If those activities don’t suit you, Suncadia also offers the opportunity to snowmobile, cross country ski, take a horse-drawn carriage ride, and so much more! As a couple, with a group of friends, with your family, Suncadia Resort is an idyllic destination just outside of Seattle for some serious snow-tertainment!
